This assessment requires that where PA1 is not already held, YOU MUST undertake a minimum of one optional unit alongside unit PA1. PA1 alone is not a recognized certificate of competence.

Operators applying pesticides on a commercial basis are legally required to hold an appropriate Certificate of Competence by the Control of Pesticide Regulations. Unit PA1 is the foundation unit covering legislation through the approved code of practice, which has to be achieved before taking a practical assessment with a specific type of applicator, such as knapsack sprayer, boom sprayer, seed treatment, etc.

PA13 Sub – surface liquid applicators.

Candidates must be a minimum age of 16 or over.

-Product knowledge and label interpretation
-Personal protection equipment requirements (PPE)
-Maintenance of the equipment
-Operator health and safety
-Procedures to minimise environmental contamination and pollution
-Procedures for storing, handling, mixing and disposing of chemicals
-Equipment calibration
-Calculation and mixing of chemicals
-Prevailing weather conditions assessment
-Correct disposal of diluted pesticides
-Clean and store pesticide application equipment correctly and safely
-Understand how to deal with contaminated PPE.
